A Polish national who had been living in Stoke on Trent since 2010 with their partner and 3-year old child was referred to our Community Ventures Nash Dom weekly surgeries by the local childrens service following the sudden death of their husband. Her husband had been previously working at a factory on a fulltime contract for the last 4 years. Their partner had always looked after all the household bills and our clients English was very limited, our team were able to help her to sort her child benefits and to get a small rental property and we then assisted her with the completion of the forms she needed to complete to claim from her late husbands life policy from work.
